Thank you for all your support throughout 2016 and into 2017

rotary

Thank you for all your support throughout 2016 and into 2017, your funding has enabled us to not only offer holidays to our families but we have been able to fund groups of children with activities during the school holidays i.e.: swimming, horse riding, cycling this was achieved and we funded many groups of children.

We also aimed to provide exclusive sessions at specialist multi sensory play centres, which we believed would be greatly beneficial in the development of young children, to date we have assisted 370 children in the following activities:

  • Swimming at the Pelican Centre
  • Horse Riding at Margaret Haes Riding Centre
  • Wheels for All
  • Hyndburn Space Centre
  • Jump Space Rebound Therapy
  • Bouncy Castle Hire

We are now working in partnership with 5* Ribby Hall Village and have been chosen as PR World Travel’s Charity of the Year this enables us to secure the best discounts for the holidays.

So once again A Very Big Thank You to you all and we look forward to your continued support this year enabling us to give families “Memories to Cherish”

We are VERY PROUD to announce that we have been chosen as PR World Travel‘s CHARITY OF THE YEAR for their 25th Anniversary year 2016.

Welcome

Thank you for all your support throughout 2015 and into 2016, your funding has enabled us to not only offer holidays to our families but we have been able to fund activity days which included Indoor Skydiving, Snow Mobility, Indoor Skiing, Adventure days and day trips. We have also increased the number of family holidays which we provide that allow families to create “Memories to Cherish”.

Our plans were to expand the sporting activities. We have overly achieved this by enabling children to fulfil life time dreams including providing an adapted Hand Cycle to a little boy who dreamed of riding the coast to coast with his friends and achieved his dream by riding sections of the coast to coast not only with his friends but alongside one of our Trustee’s Andrew.

So once again A Very Big Thank You to you all and we look forward to your continued support this year enabling us to give families “Memories to Cherish”

Introducing Frankie

Frankie was diagnosed with Brachycephaly at 5 months old. His head had been severely mis-shaped for a while before that. We were very concerned, but after waiting nearly 3 months for an appointment, we were told by NHS doctors that “his hair will grow over it when he’s older”! By this point though, we had already sought private healthcare advice. His head was extremely severe; he measured off the chart that they use. There was treatment available, but it came at a cost of £1950. That would cover a helmet for Frankie to wear, and all follow up appointment. We were set for doing some fundraising, but Trewan Sands stepped in and covered the cost. A huge weight was lifted from our minds. Treatment commenced in February when he was exactly 6 months old. Frankie wore the helmet 23 hours a day, with just a short break each morning and evening. He wore it for 22 weeks and we saw a massive improvement before he outgrew it. As parents, we cannot thank the team at Trewan Sands Children’s Trust enough, we will be eternally grateful.

OUR ANGEL

angel 1

Angel was born on 23rd May 2011 with a big mop of black hair. She was diagnosed at birth with Fetal Valproate Syndrome, Trigonocephly and Spina Bifida Occulta She also has Hypotonia. She was later diagnosed with severe Reflux, Global Development Delay and Autism. We were told not to expect much from her. We soon realised that Angel could not see and after many tests we were told Angel would likely be blind. She could see lights though so we bought her toys with flashing lights and sat at the window with her. When she was 7 months her vision came in, it was just vastly delayed!

Angel’s now 5 years old,  she celebrated her birthday on the 23rd of May and had a lovely party surrounded by all her family and friends on Saturday the 28th of May.  She spent the whole afternoon singing into a microphone and dancing, she especially enjoyed opening all of her presents.

She enjoys going to Millwood Primary Special School where she has made many friends including Oliver who is her Very Best friend at school.  We recently had the pleasure of attending Angel and Oliver’s Sports Day at School and as the pictures show they had a brilliant day.  She’s a very clever little girl and now has reading books, counts, recognised letters, numbers and shapes all of which was thought never possible.

Angel has become quite the entertainer and loves singing and dancing.  Her other best friend Joe recently taught her how to dance to the “Birdie Song”  and she is now working her way through the dance CD’s learning all the new dances including the “Gangnam Style”.  On the 25th of June Angel was chosen to sing live on stage at the Lowry Centre along with other children from special needs schools and she took centre stage.  She is a truly inspirational little girl who learns new words, signs and songs every day , she has made some very special friends here at Trewan Sands and she loves coming to the offices to entertain us with her singing, dancing and her new pout xx
